The guided tour of the Palmyra exhibition has been developed with generous support from the Augustinus Foundation, the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, and the New Carlsberg Foundation.
A guided tour in the Glyptotek's collection of Palmyrene funerary portraits.
Experience Palmyra – a flourishing trading hub in the heart of the Syrian desert, situated between the Roman Empire in the west and the Parthian Empire in the east. As a pivotal crossroad for international trade routes, the city developed a strong local identity in close connection with the wider world. On this guided tour we explore the Glyptotek's exceptional collection of Palmyrene funerary portraits – the largest of its kind outside Syria – and get closer to the people who lived, died, and were remembered in the thriving desert city.
