      About Picnic

When Carl Jacobsen opened the Glyptotek in 1897, the idea was not solely to give the people of Copenhagen a new art museum. It was also to provide them with an oasis, the centre of which would be the lush greenery of the Winter Garden: a place to give each visitor the chance to unwind from the daily grind and make the visit a pleasure with no obligations.

In 2018 Lasse Askov, Michelin chef and entrepreneur, opened Picnic. His thoughts behind the opening of Picnic were, in line with Carl Jacobsen himself, that guests should be able to enjoy a 'picnic' in the Glyptotek's winter garden all year round – even when the weather is gray and unforgiving outside.

Picnic serves modern food made from the finest ingredients in menus that change with the seasons.

The café’s name is found in the French language (pique-nique in French, and later picnic in English).

Would you like to rent the Glyptotek for your event?

The Glyptotek is the perfect setting for setting for any kind of event – everything from award ceremonies to gala dinners and receptions for up to 500 guests. We take meticulous care of every little detail, ensuring that your event will be one to remember.

It goes without saying that the key to any unforgettable experience is excellent food.

Picnic is one of the Glyptotek’s regular partners for catering. Treat your guests to a delicious, bespoke dining experience.

      Accesibility

The Glyptotek is an old building and subject to a listed building which means that the museum is not optimally appointed for, for instance, wheelchair users, which means, among other things, that unfortunately there are stairs to the café. Naturally we do what we can to make the café as accessible as possible for all.

Therefore, we ask all wheelchair users to book a table in the café prior to you visit no later than one day in advance and state in the comment box ‘wheelchair user’ when booking.

Please contact us at picnic@glyptoteket.dk if you have inquiries.
